This project has many memories built up to it with Leos' from 4 Leo Clubs joining hands there was a participation of about 30 Leos'. The meetup point was my home and one by one the Leos were joining in. As a few of them headed out to bring the dinner we had prepared the others were mingling and getting to know each other; we as a club were truly glad to see the presence of many of our prospects who were truly eager to start this project.

Leos heading to the Perahara road
A well known and seeing festivity within our country is perehara's that most temples have. With many ining on both sides of the road to see the colorful dances the majestic elephants and all the glitz and the glam of a tradition been carried out in all parts of our country. Yet after the celebration, the most visible thing is the massive pollution among the sides of the roads even been cleaned by the municipal council, the effect of this is long-lasting. With the trash been not recycled and even just dumped into landfills all across the country.

Distributing Gloves and colour-coded garbage bags
We had multiple moments to remember at this project from a Leo getting stuck inside the washroom to finding out that an elephant in the parade has made a big hassle. The delicious roti with the most amazing dhal curry and also getting to know our fellow Leos' and having the best time. We left home late in the night as the perehara was over. Two teams were broken intro and each team leader was responsible for their teammates safety and no one could leave the eyesight of the group. We used biodegradable garbage bags and gloves to collect the trash. Some of the food waste was handed over to the municipality and the rest was brought back home. Everyone dispersed from home around 3.00 am after another meal and the few of us who remained at my place fell fast asleep.

Leos collecting trash
The next early morning it was time to divide and categorize the waste. The plastic bottles were in one, the rubber in another, and all other bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable wastes divided within the day. We were able to handover over 20kgs' of plastic bottles to recycling and other items as well. This project not only made an impact on the matter of waste consumption. But all those who walked over to us as we cleaned the sides of the roads wanting to know who we are and why we are doing this was mesmerizing. The community saw a set of young leaders setting an example and we were able to witness that as many of those who are away trash right in front of us picked them up and made sure it was discarded properly. On that night another part of the community learned about Leo's hearts strung with love to make sure we stood for the betterment of our community and our country.
