The JOY of Christmas

The true spirit of Christmas lies within the humble acts of kindness that we share with one another.

Spreading the joy with gifts
No matter which religion you follow Christmas is the time of the year we are all eagerly waiting because it is the season of spreading Joy and Happiness to everyone. As kids surprise gifts from Santa Clause made us so happy that even for now, we cherish and treasure those beautiful moments in our lives. But what happens if u fell ill and have to stay in a hospital for weeks by swallowing  bitter pills that you hated to take in while other kids enjoy their vacation and celebrating Christmas.

Therefore this Christmas Leos of Polgasowita along with the Santa Clause from the North Pole decided to visit the children who are getting treatments in the childrens ward of Kalubowila Hospital to make them feel special during their stay at the hospital and remind them that they are not alone in the fights with various illnesses.

During the day of the project we practiced the carols with the medical students after reaching the hospital in the early morning and we were blessed to have visiting Leos from Leo Club of Mattegoda and Leo Club of Kalubowila who also took part in the Carol singing secession with the Medical students.





The program flow was handled by the medical students while Leos of Polgasowita contributed them by performing and holding activity secessions to the kids which included a balloon game and a Ring throwing game which kids participated with a lot of excitement.

In addition to the gifts, sweet items such as chocolates were provided to all the kids who participated for the games while Santa Clause kept entertaining everyone at the venue. Santa Clause who is a parent of one of our Leos entertained the whole audience and brought laugh to all those who were present at the project including children, their mothers, doctors, nurses and the staff of the hospital. Although the project was for children everyone enjoyed the day equally as a result of the efforts of the Leos.

        By- Leo Disali Gunasekere Morning prayers ‘ Generations’ , a project done by us, was organized with the view of celebrating World Children’s and Elders day. The specialty of this project was the fact that both world children’s day and elders' day was celebrated together. It was held at S.S. Marian John Senior Home Pita Kotte. The morning started with an opening prayer, boosting up the energy of the young as well as old souls.  After the blessings we proceeded on to the singing session where sheets of printed papers were distributed among the crowd. Songs were selected by the knowledge gathered through the many visits which was done before the day of the project. සටහන- ලියෝ තරිදු පෙරේරා මං පාරේ අයාලේ යන බව්වෙක් මට මතකයි පොඩි කාලේ මාමලා වගයක් මාව පාරේ දාලා ගියා. එදා තමයි මං බය උන වැඩිම දවස. එදා ඉදන් අව්වට වැස්සට සෙවනක් නැතිව කන්න බොන්න හරියට නැතුව දුක සේ ඉන්නෙ. අව්ව දවසට අව්වෙන් බේරෙන්න වාහනයක් යටට රිංගනවා. මොකද ඉස්සර වගේ හෙවන දෙන්න ගහක් හොයගන්න නැති තරම් නිසා. වාහනේ යට උනත් ඉන්නේ හරි බයෙන් මම. වැස්ස දවසට තෙමෙන්නෙ නැතුව ඉන්න තැනක් හොයාගන්නම නෑ. කඩයක් ඇතුලකටවත් මට යන්න බෑ.මාව එලවනවා අයාලේ යන බව්වෙක් නිසා. ඉතින් වැස්ස දවසක් කියන්නේ ගොඩක් වෙලාවට මට තෙමෙන්න වෙනවම තමයි. වැස්සට තෙමිලා මගෙන් එන ගද මටම වෙලාවකට ඉවසන්න බෑ. මැක්කොත් ඇගේ බෝ උනාම මට මේ ජිවිතේ මොකක්ද කියලා හිතෙනවා. කන්න කෑමක් හොයන් මං දවසකට කොච්චර නම් දුරක් ඇවිදිනවද. සමහර දවස් වලට කොච්චර ඇවිද්දත් බඩ පිරෙන්න කෑමක් හම්බෙන්නෙත් නෑ. මං ඉතින් ඉවසගන්න බැරි උන වෙලාවට කෑම ඉල්ලනවා මිනිස්සුන්ගෙන්. ගොඩාක් අය මට ඉතින් ගහල පන්නනවා. මං ගද ගහන වල් බල්ලෙක් නිසා වෙන්න ඇති ඉතින් එයාලා එහෙම සලකන්නේ. එත් ඒක මට වෙනස් කරන්න විදියක් නෑනේ ඒක මට උරුම දේනේ. හිත හොද මිනිස්සුත් නැතුවම නෙමෙයි. මේ ලගදි අපිට කන්

Lets Roar for "Mini Roars" - A club fundraiser

By- Leo Chanakya Ranasinghe Leo Lohan with his Mini Roar Being a Leo you are always proud of the service that you provide for the society and it will always be in your heart. But as Leos of Polgasowita, we thought of giving you a symbol to remind you of the great work you render to the society. A simple and Sweet key tag with a lion - MINI ROARS is a fundraiser we initiated aiming Leos as well as non-Leos to collect funds as well as to spread awareness on the Leo Moment out into the public. The specialty of this fundraiser is all these key tags were handmade and purchased from a small business we contacted through Facebook and through this fundraiser we were able to help a family to earn an income by purchasing these key tags too. These key tags were purchased by different clubs in big quantities to provide them to their Leos to present them as a token of appreciation for their hard work which indeed shows the popularity of this fundraiser among the Leos.

As I got dressed for the big day ahead, the calm and quite creeped in reminding me of the journey we are to embark, a journey many of us were gladly and excitedly looking forward to.  Arriving quite early at the Leo Youth Center seeing the smiling faces of the fellow club members as the entire hall was prepped and ready to go the eye-catching banner displayed on the head table said it all. ONE VOTE = ONE PLANT

By- Leo Chanakya Ranasinghe One vote one plant challenge is a project initiated by the  Leo Club of Polgasowita in line with the Presidential polls of 2019 which was held on November 16th. Usually the presidential elections ends up with a massive environmental destruction which is caused by various sources such as posters, leaflets, firecrackers and etc. But we as Leos thought of creating a positive trend across the youth and the general public by creating a social media challenge to plant one tree for a vote given by them. This challenge required the participants to plant a tree at the election day and post a picture with the hashtag #OnevoteOneplantchallenge and each and every post was featured by the Facebook and Instagram pages of Leo Club of Polgasowita. බහු භූතයෝ - Fun filled Halloween night

 By - Leo Chanakya Ranasinghe බහු භූතයෝ Celebrating Halloween is not something usually done in Sri Lanka, yet the new trend is slowly sweeping into the lives of the modern generation. We thought of this to be the perfect opportunity to hold on tight to the strong bond within the Leos of A2.  බහු භූතයෝ was organized jointly with our fellow Leo Club, Leo Club of Kalubowila. With Leo Malika as Chairperson, Leo Disali as project secretary, and Leo Chamika as project treasurer the night of horrors and fun was planned under the guidance of the club presidents. The initial idea has been generated from Leo Dinendri the team pooled in with many of their thoughts to ensure that this night was one to remember. A Sri Lankan themed Halloween night where a Yakinna and the Yakha of the night was to be crowned. With multiple trees being cut to satisfy a need that can barely ever be ful-filled. With tons of people lining up in stores daily a wolrd wide best selling industry is the industry of paper. Our daily need is one of them. Be is wrapping paper, tissue paper or even note pads we cannot live without it. Knowing the way in which paper is made yet we assume we have acres and acres more to go until onedaya we won't have anything else more to live on. We hope to create a spark of responsibility to all those who do not feel the pressure of global warming that we are going throrugh at present. We as humans have given out need priority knowingly killing the world among us. Though at first it was to be carried out in multiple phases we had to opt to just doing the email awarenes campaign due to the Covid-19 pandemic which is effecting a globe. I
